Galaxy of Habib Carpets

A branch of oldest carpet family, Habib Carpets traces its origins to Sheikh Din Muhammad who started carpet business in Lahore, in the 1930s. As business gradually grew, his son Ghulam Ahmed moved to Bombay where he established a wholesale carpet trade. After partition in 1947, Ghulam Ahmed shifted to Karachi where he launched his carpet business under the banner of Habib Carpets Store. It was one of the first carpet outlets to be opened in the capital of the new country on the map of the world. During the 50s, Habib Carpets set up its own manufacturing unit and began to produce Bukhara 12/22 carpets which were the most sought-after design in those days. The 1960s saw the firm entering the export market in a big way. The main export destination was London in those days. And the main export item was Bokhara. With the start of the 70s, two important developments took place. The firm started manufacturing 16/18 carpets and secondly, it began to pay more attention to exports. 16/18 a superior product soon became a hot favorite of consumers in the major markets.
