An Exemplary Entrepreneur, Outlived By His Legacy of Generosity
Born in 1938, Sheikh Muhammad Saleem belonged to a business family from Chiniot. In 1951 he moved to Karachi and enrolled in Government Commerce College for his Bachelor’s degree. After graduation, Sheikh Saleem joined Institute of Business Administration Karachi (IBA) which had been newly established under the joint auspices of USC and Wharton. He was the first among his family to earn an internationally accredited MBA degree.
In 1963 Sheikh Saleem ventured into the trading business, where he proved himself a successful entrepreneur. He continued to expand his business rapidly and in the early 90s established Nishat Chunian Group.
Sheikh Saleem was not only a successful businessman but a philanthropic and compassionate individual. He set up an English medium school in Bhaipheru, which continues to serve the educational needs of 500 students. Pursuing his vision of social uplift, he went on to establish a 30 bed hospital in the same area to provide quality healthcare facilities to the local residents.
Driven by the principles of generosity and kindness, Sheikh Saleem always offered assistance to his family, friends and community in meaningful and long lasting ways. His motto was to help anyone in need in every way possible, while ensuring that no one ever knew about his charitable work. Sheikh Saleem’s legacy continues to outlive him; he indelibly shaped and improved the lives of countless people.
